Without Denise Burnett Stewart, BSN, RN, there would be no Travel Nurses, Inc. She co-founded the agency in August of 1988 after being laid off from her job. The lay off was extremely stressful for her, but it turned out to be the biggest blessing because it gave her the motivation to start Travel Nurses, Inc. Denise worked the first shift for the agency and started recruiting nurses. However, a year into this venture, her co-founder tragically passed away from ovarian cancer. Denise decided in that moment to persevere and continue the agency in the legacy of her co-founder. The agency began to grow organically, and Denise started to receive staffing requests from California, Nevada, Mississippi, and other states. Today, the agency staffs all nursing specialties and allied health professionals in 49 states.
Denise and her husband, David, enjoy listening to live music. Living in Memphis, TN makes it easy for them to do this- you can find live music just about anywhere. She loves spending time with her family at their lake house. Denise has five grandchildren and a few granddogs that she gets to love on. Being from California originally, Denise and her husband like to travel out west. Most recently, they took a trip to Utah and can’t wait to go back.
