Submissions 101

Everything You Need to Know About Submissions (Updated September 2025)

If you’re new to travel nursing or allied health contracts, you’ve probably heard your recruiter mention “submitting” you for a job. But what does that actually mean?

Let’s break down what a submission is, what you’ll need to be submitted and what to expect once you’re in the running for a travel assignment.

What Is a Submission?

When you agree to be submitted to a job, your recruiter sends your information—resume, licensure, references, and any required documents—to the facility or vendor management system (VMS) that manages that facility’s staffing needs. This doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the job, but it’s the first step to being considered.

The number of submissions it takes to get an offer can vary. As of mid-2025, most of our travelers receive an offer after 7 to 10 submissions. That number fluctuates based on your specialty, experience, flexibility and current market demand.

What You Need Before You Can Be Submitted

To be submitted for a travel assignment, you’ll need the following:

  • A completed profile (resume, work history, skill checklists, and references)

  • Licensure for the state where the job is located (or a multistate license if applicable)

  • Clear availability and shift preferences

  • Approval for submission from you (we’ll never submit you without your OK)

Your recruiter may also ask for a short paragraph about yourself to help personalize your profile. Facilities love knowing who you are beyond your skills. They’re looking for teammates, not just talent.

Tips for Getting Submitted Faster

  • Be ready with your documents. Having your profile completed helps speed things up.

  • Stay flexible. If you’re open to multiple locations or shift types, you’ll have more opportunities.

  • Communicate. Let your recruiter know when you’re available for interviews and how quickly you can start.

FAQs About Submissions

What happens after I’m submitted?
Once you’re submitted, the facility reviews your profile. This can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, depending on urgency and volume. Your recruiter will follow up regularly and keep you posted on any feedback or interview requests.

Can I be submitted to the same job by multiple agencies?
Technically, yes, but we don’t recommend it. Duplicate submissions can frustrate facilities and lower your chances. Always let your recruiter know if you’re working with another agency so we can avoid overlap.

What if I don’t get the job?
No worries! It’s part of the process. We’ll keep submitting you to other positions that match your goals. The right fit is out there.

What licenses work for submission?
If you have a multistate license, you can be submitted in any Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Connecticut joined the NLC in May 2024, bringing the total to 42 states. Always confirm that your license is active and matches the job location.
