Not only does Virginia have beautiful mountains, but it also has great beaches to explore. If you’re traveling with your furry friend, there are plenty of dog-friendly beaches for you to visit all along the Atlantic coast.
Another popular outdoor activity in Virginia is fishing. The state has a diverse variety of fishing opportunities and draws in many tourists each year. The states boasts more than 176,000 acres of public lakes and 27,000 miles of fishable streams. So make sure to pack your rod and reel when heading over to Virginia.

Virginia is home to several National Battlefield Parks from the American Revolution and the Civil War. Virginia is the state that saw the most battles during the Civil War, and both the American Revolution and the Civil War ended in Virginia. If you are a history buff, you can visit these battlegrounds across the state.
Visit Charlottesville, Virginia to see Monticello, the home of former President Thomas Jefferson. This is a National Historic Landmark, as well as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.

Hopefully you remember this from your fourth-grade history class, but Jamestown, Virginia was the first English colony in the United States. It’s where John Smith met Pocahontas. Not only is the state the birthplace of presidents, but it’s really the birthplace of a nation.
